This prestigious opportunity is designed for advanced Ph.D. students who are in the final stages of their dissertation. The program provides a unique opportunity to gain teaching experience, receive faculty mentorship, and benefit from dedicated time to complete dissertation writing in a supportive academic environment on the Morris campus. Duties may include office hours (as determined by the supervisor), grading assignments, editing/proofreading, and participation in various campus events that will be determined by the department and supervisor in the candidate's field of study. Work schedule times will be determined upon selection but can range from Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm. Limited to students registered in a graduate or post-baccalaureate professional degree program at the University of Minnesota. These positions are covered by the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Minnesota and the Graduate Labor Union-United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America (GLU-UE). Award Components: 50% Graduate Assistantship - (Fall and Spring semesters - Teach 1 course per semester TBD by college) A stipend of at least $21,801 for the academic year, corresponding to a 50% appointment (job code 9515 or 9517) at $27.95/hour for 20 hours/week (fall 2025 figures). Pay is biweekly according to the University's biweekly payroll calendar for fiscal year 2026. A lump sum payment of $250 per course credit due to the primary instructors of record for a course appointed in job code 9515 or 9517; An annual increase to the stipend in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement (Article 24, Compensation, Subsection 2.3; Annual Wage Adjustments to DPS Positions); Health insurance coverage under the Graduate Assistant Health Plan; Tuition benefit for up to 14 thesis (8888) credits/semester (job code 9515), or for 1 advanced doctoral status FTE (8444) credit (job code 9517), including a waiver of the non-resident portion of tuition, if applicable. DOVE Dissertation Writing Fellowship: $4,000-$8,000 (based on availability) Research/Conference Professional Development Funding: $1,000-$2,000 (based on availability) Housing Support: On-campus housing at UMN Morris Faculty Mentorship and Supervision: This will be decided based on the candidate's current field of study. Notification of office location and supervisor will be given once a candidate has been selected. Qualifications Eligibility Criteria Applicants must meet all of the following requirements: Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or present in the U.S. with non-temporary legal status Be COSP-eligible and enrolled in a University of Minnesota Ph.D. program For the UMN Morris Fellowship: enrolled in a Twin Cities OR Duluth doctoral degree program Have achieved ABD status (All But Dissertation) by the start of the fellowship: Passed all written and oral preliminary exams Completed all required coursework credits Be registered for thesis credits or hold advanced doctoral status (8444) Be within two years of expected dissertation completion Must have academic background in the subject matter and a demonstrated understanding of the course they will be assigned to as a Graduate Instructor. Be willing and able to relocate temporarily to the host campus town (housing or stipend provided); spouses and dependents are welcome Pay and Benefits Pay Range: $27.95 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience Pay is biweekly according to the University's biweekly payroll calendar for fiscal year 2026.
