Job Description

Description

DDG is seeking a Grant Writer II to serve one of our municipal clients by identifying grant opportunities and developing competitive, well-researched applications on the City’s behalf. This role requires demonstrated experience preparing and submitting grant applications to a variety of funding agencies, including local, state, and federal entities. Candidates must have experience navigating multiple agency requirements, formats, and submission platforms—not solely those of a single funding source. Working in close coordination with the Engineering Director and other departments, the Grant Writer II will ensure that each application aligns with municipal goals and meets all technical and regulatory criteria. The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical, organizational, and technical writing skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information and manage multiple deadlines. This role is vital to securing external funding that supports the City’s infrastructure, planning, and development priorities.

ACTIVITIES + RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Research and identify relevant grant opportunities from local, state, federal, and other funding agencies that align with municipal priorities.
  • Develop high-quality, technically sound grant proposals, including narratives, supporting documentation, and budget justifications, in coordination with internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the Grant Administrator, Engineering Director, and other departments to gather necessary information and ensure alignment with programmatic and financial objectives.
  • Maintain knowledge of and adhere to the specific requirements and guidelines of each funding agency to ensure eligibility and compliance at the application stage.
  • Draft and prepare application materials for submission, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely delivery in accordance with agency deadlines.
  • Track the status of submitted applications and maintain organized records of grant submittals, deadlines, and outcomes.
  • Respond to agency questions and requests for clarification or additional materials during the application review process.
  • Assist in reviewing previously submitted proposals for future revisions or resubmissions.
  • Provide input on funding strategies and support the development of a proactive grant-seeking calendar.
  • Support internal communication regarding open grant opportunities and deadlines.
  • Perform other grant-writing and research-related duties as assigned by the Grant Administrator.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to be both creative and analytical.
  • Extremely detail-oriented and accurate.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and grant management software
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
  • Proven experience in grant administration or a related role.
  • Strong understanding of grant compliance and reporting requirements.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to travel to various project sites.
  • Must be able to access and navigate job sites and construction areas.
