Position Title Library Desk Assistant

Department Library

Appointment Term Spring (January - May)

FLSA Non-Exempt

Job Summary

To assist library staff with the daily functions at library desks.

Preferred start date: 01/20/2026

Essential Duties

  • Basic customer service
  • Checking in/out library materials using Sierra computer system
  • Assist patrons in locating library materials
  • Re-shelving library materials using the Library of Congress call number system
  • Handling monetary transactions involving payment of fines, etc.
  • Basic computer/clerical tasks
  • Keeping work area and library areas neat and orderly
  • Assist with disinfecting computer keyboards/mice, study tables and study rooms
  • Stocking paper and changing toner in the library printers
  • Communicate effectively with library patrons
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • MWSU Student
  • Degree Seeking
  • At least an overall 2.0 GPA
  • Enrolled at least part-time
  • May need to qualify for Federal Work Study

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must possess excellent customer service skills
  • Be able to interact and communicate effectively with patrons and library staff
  • Be able to push/pull 50lb cart of books
  • Ability to shelve and retrieve library materials
  • Basic computer/clerical skills and attention to detail is required
  • Must be detail-oriented

Physical Demands Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
